Anjali and Dev are in love with each other and plan to marry, but her family gets her married to Ram. Years later, Dev shows up to reunite with Anjali, however, she has fallen in love with Ram.

Film Dhadkan is a 2000 Indian romantic musical drama film directed by Dharmesh Darshan and produced by Ratan Jain. It revolves around Anjali (Shilpa Shetty) who leaves her lover Dev (Sunil Shetty) for marrying the kind-hearted Ram (Akshay Kumar) who is chosen as her groom by her father. The story takes an interesting twist when Anjali, who gradually falls in love with Ram due to his humanity and nature, bumps into the successful businessman turned Dev who still wants to reconcile with her. Dhadkan is inspired by the novel Wuthering Heights and also features Mahima Chaudhary, Parmeet Sethi, Kiran Kumar, Sushma Seth and Manjeet Kullar in other important roles.

Plot: Anjali is a young woman. Her rich and influential father Narendra is a renowned businessman. Anjali is dating the poor Dev who cannot even afford to clothe himself properly. He loves Anjali too. When Anjali puts forward the proposal of marrying Dev to Narendra, he decides to meet Dev. After meeting him, Narendra doesn't like his attitude and rejects him.

Anjali leaves Dev to not upset Narendra and her mother, Veena. Heartbroken, Dev tells this to his mother, Jhanvi who dies in shock as she liked Anjali a lot. Anjali marries Ram, whom Narendra believes will be perfect match for her. Ram is a Cute , Charming and man of great ideals, who believes in giving a rightful place to Anjali and respects her sensibilities.

After seeing the magnanimity of Ram's heart in accepting her, Anjali realizes she has fallen in love with him. Ram too falls in love with her. They confess their love, and consummate their marriage. Often the two go on holidays and spend romantic moments.

Ram and Anjali celebrate their 3rd wedding anniversary. Dev returns and is now a wealthy businessman. Anjali is stuck at a crossroad on where she would stand — for Ram or Dev. She stands for Ram (whom she deeply loves) and refuses to return to Dev (who still wants to unite with her), even though it pains her to know how hurt Dev is and will be in his future.

Dev cannot stand rejection for a second time and sets out to ruin Ram's life. Anjali gets pregnant. She begs Dev to leave her alone. Dev turns good and decides to marry his business partner Sheetal, his new companion who secretly loved him for a long time. He departs with her to London as Anjali and Ram look on.
